HOUSTON: February 3, 2011: Alpheus Communications, one of the largest competitive fiber network operators in Texas, announced today that it has acquired valuable new fiber rings in east Dallas County and Downtown Fort Worth from FiberLight. The transaction constitutes Alpheus’ fifth major fiber acquisition in the last five years. In addition to fiber purchases, the company also builds rings and laterals in order to serve the high growth corridors in Texas and operates hardened data centers at the edges of a carrier-grade optical network. The rapid increase in the demand for 3G and 4G wireless data services directly drives the demand for nearby fiber. Once a wireless signal travels down a tower and onto a terrestrial network, wireless capacity is returned for reuse, interference stops being an issue, and the data stream is obviously more secure.
Paul Hobby, CEO of Alpheus said, “These new assets help our density in the places where the demand for broadband Internet access and dedicated wavelengths are growing exponentially. Our fiber networks and data centers are critical infrastructure for a knowledge-based economy in Texas.”
Michael P. Miller, CEO and Founder of FiberLight said, “We are delighted to have completed this significant transaction, as it enhances Alpheus’ position as a leading alternative connectivity provider in Texas. Alpheus has been and continues to be an important customer of ours. We look forward to continuing our long-term relationship during this evolving and exciting period in the wireless industry’s growth.”
Aerospace, telecommunications, healthcare and finance are each heavy users of secure, high capacity networks and mass storage devices. For more information, please contact Chip Robertson at 713-336-6500 or visit us at www.alpheuscommunications.com.
