Alpheus Communications joins NRG Energy and other leading Houston companies to promote Electric Vehicles

HOUSTON (December 21, 2010)—Today Alpheus Communications announced its support for the growing NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE: NRG) eVgosm (ee-vee-go) network of electric vehicle rapid charging stations in Houston to provide complete range confidence to electric vehicle drivers. Alpheus will transition its fleet of service vehicles as they require replacement to plug-in electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids. Alpheus will also consider various incentives for employees who acquire an electric vehicle for commuting purposes.

“We are pleased to support NRG’s effort to promote electric vehicles,” said Kent Major, President of Alpheus. “Practical, affordable electric vehicle models, supported by a comprehensive network of eVgo charging stations will lower both our operating cost and our emissions profile.”

eVgo can provide electric vehicle fleet owners throughout the greater Houston area with an extremely convenient and affordable “work-and-away” fueling package. In addition to the EV charging stations located at the workplace, the network will allow drivers to keep going throughout their workday through public ‘fast charging’ stations conveniently located along major freeways, in key shopping and business districts, and at popular retailers across Harris County.

“Alpheus Communications, with its broadband infrastructure and networking expertise, represents an important part of the high-tech future of the Texas economy,” added Arun Banskota, the president of NRG EV Services.  “We are thrilled to have their support and commitment to greater usage of electric vehicles in their operations.”
